1st Annual Los Gatos Junior Open and Novice Tournament

We are very proud to be starting our very own USTA sanctioned junior tournament here at LGSRC. The tournament will run from August 17th – 21st and registration is open right now through August 9th.

The “Novice” level is a great way for many of our younger tennis players to experience the thrill of competing in a fun environment. The “Open” level is more challenging but is still great for our more advanced kids here at the Club.

Open divisions will consist of singles and doubles with age groups of 12’s and 14’s, 16’s, and 18’s. Each participant will receive a free t-shirt, complimentary lunch, and admission to our very fun player’s party—we will have a ping-pong table and an Xbox 360 Guitar Hero challenge.

All finalists will receive awards. If you have any questions please stop by our pro shop, call us at 356-8363 or email us at lgsrc.proshop@gmail.com and we will be happy to assist you.

Serious Side Effects of Yoga
The word “yoga” in Sanskrit (ancient Indian) translates to mean “to yoke” or “to unite” body, breath, mind, and spirit. This ancient practice dates back at least 4000 years. Today, especially in the west, yoga practices mostly emphasize poses (asana) and breathing technique (pranayama). Different from other exercise techniques, yoga integrates breath with movement, always monitoring the breath as a guide and tool for progressing in the asana.

It works to stretch and strengthen the muscles at the same time. Also, we enter our practice in a state of receptiveness, beginning the class with centering and awareness. A healthy dose of yoga, say three time per week, can achieve independence from being a slave to our body. This freedom will lead to an open heart and mind, but beware of the side effects:cts:
  • increase in strength, balance and flexibility in physical activities and between both side of the body
  • stronger and straighter spine, maybe becoming a bit taller
  • improved digestion, circulation and overall organ function
  • significant decrease in stress, better sleep, and overall sense of well being
If you experience any of these side effects, simply report to your yoga instructor to continue your practice.

Vinyâsa Yoga

Wednesday and Friday 11:30 Eclectic Yoga will change to Vinyasa Yoga. Vinyâsa is a term that covers a broad range of yoga classes. The word Vinyâsa means “breath-synchronized movement.” In other words, the teacher will instruct you to move from one pose to the next on an inhale or an exhale.

This style allows for a lot of variety, but will almost certainly include Sun Salutations. The purpose of vinyâsa is to create heat in the body, which leads to purification of the body through increased circulation and sweating. It also improves flexibility, as well as tendon and hard tissue strength, allowing the student to practice advanced âsanas with reduced risk of injury.

Vinyâsa has since been thought of as a physically demanding practice, which can be successful at channeling the hyperactivity of young minds. This system can also be used as a vessel for helping calm ongoing chatter of the mind, reducing stress and teaching extroverted personalities to redirect their attention to their internal experience.

Instructors: Linda Wagner
Days: Wedenesday 12:00, and Fridays 11:30

Summer Camps at the LGSRC

The Club will be running three different summer camps this season. Don’t let your child sit home bored in front of the T.V. all summer. Bring them down to the club for some fresh air and fun times. This year we are offering a Kinder Camp for our littlest campers (ages two and three) . ) .

This is a great experience for your little ones to be engaged in a positive learning environment. Each day at camp the campers will be able to participate in arts and crafts, outdoor play and circle time. In addition to normal camp activities the kids will take part in a structured swim lesson with two of our Club swim instructors.

This camp will give your child the good start they need to continue in their physical and social development. Our Summer Camp is open to all kids ages 4-12 years old.

In camp, kids will do a variety of activities, including tennis time on the courts, arts and crafts, outdoor play and free swim. Not only do we pack in the fun here at the Club, but every Friday we go off-site for a field trip.

Field trips are based on age and include local favorites like The Tech Museum, Golfland, Ice Skating, Bowling and Pizza, The Jungle and more. Summer Camp is a great way to keep your child happy and active all summer long. The other new camp the Club is offering this summer is a Junior Counselor Camp.

This camp is designed in order to help our youth develop the skills that they will need in order to continue on in their camp counselor and leadership pursuits. Camps will be run in two-week sessions.

After a Jr. Counselor has completed two different sessions of camp he or she can come back and refine the skills learned while interacting with the traditional summer camp here at the club.

This camp is a great jumpstart for anyone who is looking to babysit, become a camp counselor in the future, or develop more leadership skills.
